Over 7,000 students from South Africa, UK and the USA took part in the 2019/20 Engineering for People Design Challenge set in Makers Valley, South Africa. Each year, the Engineering for People Design Challenge ends with national Grand Finals to celebrate top teams across each of the participating countries. Due to varying term times and impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19), each national Grand Finals event is taking place at different points throughout the year and in varying formats.

The Grand Finals provides an opportunity for student teams showcase their design ideas to an expert panel of judges, with specific focus given to the social, environmental and economic aspects of their engineering design.
