3D printing for a better tomorrow

Launched in 2026 by Engineers Without Borders UK, in partnership with Additive Manufacturing UK (AMUK), the AMplify Impact Challenge invites students to devise concepts that will help shape a more globally responsible Additive Manufacturing industry.

How does it work?

Working in teams of 3–6, students are challenged to explore topics ranging from sustainable materials and supply chains to ethical practices, circular design and inclusive manufacturing processes – developing proposals that could help the Additive Manufacturing sector reduce its environmental footprint and increase its positive social impact.

The inaugural edition of the Challenge came to a close in April 2026, with Queen Mary University of London taking home the top prize. Read the full story here.

Why take part?

Design for real-world impact: Create practical, innovative solutions that address social, environmental, or industrial challenges.

Gain industry recognition: Designs are evaluated by leading companies in the 3D printing and Additive Manufacturing sector, giving your work credibility and visibility.

Collaborate and learn: Work alongside peers, mentors, and industry professionals to refine your ideas and explore practical pathways for implementation.

Showcase your work: Top teams present their solutions live at the UK’s premier manufacturing and engineering event, MACH.

Who can participate in AMplify?

University student teams passionate about engineering, design, and additive manufacturing. No prior experience with 3D printing or additive manufacturing is required — curiosity, creativity and a willingness to learn are what matter most.
