SUMMARY:Engineering for People: Introductory information sessions
DESCRIPTION:Now entering its 15th year\, the Engineering for People Design Challenge has reached over 100\,000 students across six countries – helping them build the skills and mindsets needed to develop as global responsibility engineers. \nAs we prepare to launch the 2025/26 edition\, we’re hosting two virtual drop-in sessions on Thursday 21 and Thursday 28 August. These sessions are a chance for educators to learn more about the Challenge and ask questions about how it could fit into their course or module. \nRegister to attend using the links below: \n\nSession 1 – Thursday 21 August\, 10:00 BST\nSession 2 – Thursday 28 August\, 10:00 BST\n\nPlease note\, these sessions are primarily tailored towards educators who are new to the Challenge. Educators who have already signed up to participate will take part in a dedicated launch event in September.

SUMMARY:Teaching transport: Routes to responsibility
DESCRIPTION:How can we teach transport in ways that are inclusive\, globally responsible\, and sustainability-focused? \nJoin Engineers Without Borders UK and TRATSEDI for an interactive online workshop exploring this vital question. Together\, we’ll introduce and test the Reshaping Transport Playbook — a new resource designed to support innovative\, globally responsible teaching practices in transport education. \nDeveloped as part of the High Volume Transport Applied Research Programme (HVT)\, the Playbook is aimed at empowering universities in low- and lower-middle-income countries to deliver inclusive\, sustainability-focused learning experiences. This is not a finished product\, but a living resource that will evolve through real-world use and collective feedback. \nDuring the workshop\, you will: \n\nExplore the Playbook and its potential for your teaching\nShare your interests and initial feedback\nConnect with a diverse network of educators and change-makers\nHelp shape next steps towards curriculum implementation from 2026–27\n\nBy taking part\, you’ll contribute to the development of meaningful resources that enhance global transport education — and your input will be acknowledged in the process. \nBe part of shaping the future of transport education. \nRegister for free

SUMMARY:Doughnut Economics for engineers: From theory to practice
DESCRIPTION:Hosted in collaboration with the Doughnut Economics Action Lab. \nJoin Engineers Without Borders UK and Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) for an interactive webinar exploring how Doughnut Economics 3.0 can reshape engineering practice in a complex\, interconnected world. \nIn this session\, we’ll explore how the Doughnut Economics model offers a practical visual framework for understanding global responsibility in engineering – helping engineers design solutions that meet everyone’s needs without overshooting the planet’s limits. \nThe session will open with an introduction to the updated Doughnut Economics model from Ilektra Kouloumpi\, Sectors Lead at DEAL\, including real-world examples of how it is being applied across sectors and what it means in practice for engineering. We’ll explore how key concepts\, such as the circular economy\, can influence engineering decisions\, success metrics and design briefs. \nThis will be followed by an interactive panel discussion with engineers and practitioners from DEAL\, Expedition Engineering and Elliott Wood. Drawing on their experience across the built environment and community-led projects\, the panel will examine how Doughnut Economics can move engineering beyond “doing less harm” towards regenerative\, place-based outcomes. \nSpeakers\nIlektra Kouloumpi\, Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL)\nIlektra is a sustainability engineering and post-growth economics expert\, and Sectors Lead at the Doughnut Economics Action Lab. She is widely recognised for her work on the Amsterdam City Doughnut and has led major sustainability initiatives with governments\, cities and global institutions worldwide. \nDr Jonathan Truslove\, Engineers Without Borders UK\nJonathan is an interdisciplinary researcher and Education and Skills Lead at Engineers Without Borders UK\, working to embed global responsibility in engineering education and practice. He brings experience from sustainable water and sanitation projects with rural communities across Scotland\, Rwanda\, Malawi and Cambodia. \nMike Sefton\, Expedition Engineering\nMike is a Structural Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist at Expedition Engineering\, focused on systemic decarbonisation of UK infrastructure. He is actively involved in sector-wide climate action through the Institution of Structural Engineers and Construction Declares. \nIan Poole\, Elliott Wood\nIan is a Chartered Engineer and Environmentalist at Elliott Wood\, leading innovation across retrofit\, reuse and low-carbon design. He has contributed to national Net Zero building standards and brings policy\, advisory and delivery experience to embedding environmental stewardship in practice. \nRegister
