EWB-UK National Conference 2009

This conference provides an opportunity for people involved in EWB-UK from around the UK to get together and get to know each other, along with finding out more about what is a vibrant, youthful organisation.
The weekend will kick off with a public talk on the Friday evening featuring;

The EWB-UK/RedR Cambridge Group training course at Clare Farm, which
has been running for a number of year, has always been an exciting and
inspiring event. The course consists of practical exercises, focussing
on both development and disaster relief work.
EWB-UK Pre-departure Course
Our annual pre-departure course which is run to prepare volunteers going on the EWB-UK placements scheme covers many issues and topics vital to effective development work.

Cambridge Shelter Training Course 2009
Interested in disaster relief and development?
Want to spend a weekend learning about shelter from experts in the field?
This course aims to provide an introduction to shelter, from international planning through to project implementation and the associated practical technical skills.
With a mix of theory and hands-on workshops covering shelter in emergencies, the transition from relief to development, and reconstruction and mitigation, this course will educate and inspire.
This course is aimed at students of all disciplines, it's not just for engineers!

Water and Sanitation Day

EWB-Oxford is organising a day focussing on Water and Sanitation.
In the morning the session will be taught by Jan Davis (co-author of Engineering in Emergencies) . The aim will be to introduce water, sanitation and hygiene issues for displaced people in an emergency, with the outcome of session participants being able to deliver a WASH programme.

Biofuel workshop - EWb-Nottingham
In November 2008, EWB-Nottingham invited Mike Pepler of the Ashden Awards to come and give a session on Biofuels and their importance in todays world.
EWB-Nottingham member, Sian Bower, wrote a review of the event.
Personal Risk Assessment Abroad - CANCELLED
Aimed at people who want to go abroad, this course educates the participant on aspects of personal safety the traveller might encounter away from home; such as road safety and safe working practices with a particular emphasis on performing personal risk assessments when working abroad. This course would be highly useful to anyone considering a placement or travel overseas.

EWB-UK National Conference
EWB-UK holds an annual National Conference to bring all the teams together in order to focus their aims and strategy for the year.It encompasses elements of internal training which is vital to the organisation functioning well as a whole, but also includes some external training to inspire our members and to remind them of the aims of EWB-UK; facilitating human development through engineering. This element of the conference includes inspirational talks from leading professionals along with practical activities.
