EWB-UK Research Conference 2009
“The Social Dimensions of Engineering Research”
Key Note Speakers:
Project Management Training 2005/06
A half-day training session on how to search for contacts, correspond with an NGO, and set up an overseas project for EWB-UK to run as part of the placements scheme was run by Steve Jones. This was the first time this had been run.
Attendance was good (about 20 people from various branches). Feedback was mostly positive, and has been summarised in one of the attached documents by the EWB Imperial projects team.
This was run in conjunction with the course on fundraising for EWB-UK run by Kim Roach the day before.
The next time it runs it is likely to be incorporated into the planned National Training Conference.

Year Kick-Off meeting
So we’re going to have a meeting this Thursday 26th of October in 4 East 2.4 in order to discuss what actions we want to get involved with this year. Here are a few ideas that we were most keen on trying:
A joint training session with Cardiff and Bristol branches on (provisionally) 10th-11th February 2007. We need a team of people to help work on this.
Continuing to work on the South Africa placement. Last year we had a group of hardworking people who were involved in organising the project since the start of EWB Bath. The project will need to be continued this year when two new people will travel out to the country!
A number of fundraising ideas that we need to develop. Themed races and socials, entertainment events, Corporate begging, etc. Hopefully we can give a big push to this area of Branch activities this year.
Building something as a large-scale project. EWB Nottingham built a wind turbine between themselves last year, it sounded like good fun and was great publicity for the Branch and for EWB as a whole.
There’s probably some stuff I’ve forgotten about, but I’ll bring that up at the meeting. It’ll be fun, so hope to see you there.
A couple of other things:
Please remember to sign up on Bathstudent.com as a member of EWB if you’re interested in taking part. We need to get a minimum of members if we’re gonna keep going as a society this year!
Also, log onto www.ewb-uk.org and sign up as a member of Bath Branch. This will be a very important tool to help keep in touch with other University branches and the main body of the charity.
So that’s it. Hope to see you at the meeting!
Rock on,
Sean
