Making membership matter

Are you a member of Engineers Without Borders UK? How do you know? What do you give to us and what do you get from us? What does it mean? In what ways do we represent you? In what ways do you represent us?

To date, to be a member of EWB-UK has meant that your name has simply appeared on an email list somewhere. You might have turned up to the National Conference and, by default, been given a chance to vote for the board of trustees. In fact, it’s very hard to tell how many people are “members” of EWB-UK – so many people are involved in so many ways we often can’t keep track.

This summer, EWB-UK will be creating its first formal membership scheme for its “members” at university branches, on the professional network or beyond. The scheme will work to improve the relationships with the people like you that make up our movement around the country. It will help us to report on our impact and help us to improve our strategy and governance. And it will take into account the feedback we got from the EWB-UK Branch Presidents event in Glasgow earlier in the year.

We want to make sure that it works for you as much as it works for the organisation. If you are interested in contributing to the discussion on membership, if you have answers to the questions above or if would like to help review the ‘specification’ we’re writing for the membership system... then do please email us here. Thank you!
