Inside story: Red Cross - behind the scenes of crisis
This lecture at the Royal Geographic Society on Wednesday 3 December provides a unique opportunity for members of the public to find out what life is really like behind the scenes for the Red Cross when working in crisis situations – these are the stories that don't make the headlines.
Sir Nicholas Young, chief executive of the British Red Cross since
2001, will talk about the personal and emotional journeys he has been
on while travelling around the UK and overseas on behalf of the Red
Cross, from conflict and disaster zones to areas of ongoing project
work.
Our second guest speaker, Roland Huguenin-Benjamin, has
many years' experience working in conflict zones, particularly in the
Middle East. He was appointed the first International Committee of the
Red Cross (ICRC) spokesperson in the United Kingdom. Roland will
describe his experiences as a delegate with the ICRC, working in some
of the most dangerous conflict zones in the world.
A question and answer session will follow the lecture.
Tickets cost £12 and can be ordered through this link.
