Prior Experience Needed

Working with a non-profit technology transfer organisation to develop and test a system for mass production of stabilised soil blocks.

What work will I be doing?

The two placements would work on (a) designing and fabricating a prototype machine based on existing techonology (b) testing with a range of additives and working out optimum parameters for use. The required outputs are the machine and the knowledge of how to use it (in such a way that is commercially viable). With the potenial to trial it with potential clients Kobe knows in the construction industry - building affordable houses

Kobe Projects Ltd is a non-profit technology transfer and project development contractor based in Nairobi, Kenya, and specialising in oil crop development, organic agriculture, liquid biofuels, renewable energy, environmental utilities, affordable shelter and alternative energy. Established in 2000, Kobe Projects works with across-the-board organisations including small enterprises, NGOs, environmental organisations, agro-processing and manufacturing concerns, communities and social networks.

What skills or experience do I need?

Required:

Prototype Machine Construction:

  • Mechanical/ Product Design Engineer
  • Experience in practical use of fabricators
  • Theoretical understanding of material tolerances
  • Proven product development skills
  • Drive to solve problems independently
  • English speaker

Soil Feedstock/Additives Investigation:

  • Civil/Geotechnical Engineer
  • Knowledge of soil mechanics
  • Experience of conducting strength tests
  • Proven product development skills
  • Drive to solve problems independently
  • English speaker

Desired:

  • Previous experience working/travelling in Africa
  • Knowledge of Swahili
