A 3-month placement to help supply urban communities in Sri Lanka with a source of fuel for cooking that is cheaper and less polluting than the currently used LP gas through the introduction of digesters to convert bio-mass to bio-fuel.
What work will I be doing?
The work will include familiarisation with the activities of Energy Forum in Colombo and with the existing bio-digesters for making bio-gas, suggesting improvements in design. You will research the availability of appropriate raw material that can be used in urban conditions, optimise the digestion process and investigate whether there are appropriate and accessible digesters currently available.
Who will I be working for?
The Energy Forum of Sri Lanka is a non profit organisation working to create an environment that enables the promotion and adoption of renewable and distributed energy, energy efficiency and integrated sustainable resource management mechanisms to alleviate poverty, to address energy capacity deficiencies and to protect the environment.
As a network of individuals and organisations from government institutions, Provincial Councils, the private sector, NGOs, utilities, universities, and research institutions, the Energy Forum serves as a network hub for non-partisan energy and waste related information and research. The Energy Forum, which was originally a project of ITDG, became a non profit organisation in 1999. For more information http://www.efsl.lk/
