A 3 month placement in Uganda to construct a Community and Volunteer centre, and Farm Houses.

 

What work will I be doing?

You will work in Wakiso, Uganda to construct a Community and Volunteer Centre in Kikaaya Village. The building will include an open air meeting hall, resources library, office and housing for staff and volunteers and allow the organisation to continue to carry out health and education support schemes The volunteer will also be involved in the construction of farm houses in nearby communities, which are used to train local people. Activities will include planning the project, construction, procurement of building materials, quality control and training local people. The volunteer will also help to produce a baseline survey for a water and sanitation project in the area.

Who will I be working for?

KACCAD is a small community based organization with 3 full time volunteer staff and a number of international volunteers, who live and working in Bulenga, Wakiso. It aims to raise the living standards of underprivileged people in Wakiso District through the provision of HIV/AIDS, health and education support, vocational skills development and start up resources for income generation. The organisation started as a women’s development group, but has since expanded to meet the needs of other vulnerable community members.
