The volunteer will research and develop reports for CSE's ‘Down to Earth’ publication.

 

What work will I be doing?

The exact nature of the work has not been defined yet as it is dependent on the work that CSE are doing when the volunteer arrives, the time. On arrival, the volunteer will work with CSE staff to develop a plan of work.

 

Who will I be working for?

CSE was started in 1980 to raise public awareness on environment and sustainable development. CSE “aims to increase public awareness on science, technology, environment and development.”

In the last 27 years, they have published a number of reports and books, aimed at different areas. Its research is published in a form aimed at helping students, politicians, bureaucrats and the general population to understand the environmental issues around them and the action needed. They have worked with other NGOs, presented at UN conferences, and worked with the Indian government. CSE has one office, based in New Delhi, India.

 

What skills or experience do I need?

Required:

  • Volunteers should have prior experience of development, allowing them to use the placement at CSE to place their work within the wider context of development in general. 
  • Enthusiasm
  • Interest in environmental issues
  • Flexible and able to adjust to Indian people, culture, weather, food and traffic

Desired:

  • Knowledge of Hindi
  • Some prior knowledge of some of the environmental issues of developing nations.
  • Some prior experience of student journalism.
