The built environment provides us with clean water, electricity, roads and strong homes and buildings. Often, these services are taken for granted- but in the developing world, these services can be precious, expensive and rare.

As part of the National Science and Engineering Week, this exhibition showcases some of the work NGOs have conducted overseas, to improve the built environment for those in need.

Engineers Without Borders - UK take engineering to where it is needed, providing knowledge and technical construction to support communities in developing nations. In this exhibition EWB-UK will showcase the finalists of the EWB-UK photo competitions of 2007 and 2008. The images depict some of the work of EWB-UK in using engineering to remove barriers to poverty alleviation.
