La Maison des Himalayas (NGO) - Call for volunteers

You are an architect / civil engineer / site foreman willing to volunteer in a social project while travelling: the French association 'La Maison des Himalayas' is offering the opportunity to volunteer in the construction of the Handimachal centre (medical centre specialised in disability, including an information cell and training school) in the Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh (India). The aim of the mission is to look after the building works in cooperation with the local architect and various contractors, and to report to the association regularly. Missions of three months' duration could be carried out by successive volunteers, with a first mission beginning in November-December 2008 (to be confirmed). Applicants are required to have serious knowledge in building techniques and the capability to write short reports in English. A strong adaptability is necessary to adjust to local life during several months (the beautiful valley of Kullu, in the Indian Himalayas, has a fascinating and original culture, on the way to the Buddhist valleys of Lahaul-Spiti and of Ladakh; cheap accommodation can be found easily in Manali or Kullu towns). For further information and to offer your help, please contact Ms. Dominique Dufau by email (domidufau@free.fr) as soon as possible.
