- EWB-UK RECRUITMENT 2008 – Help run EWB-UK is 2008/9 |

|
Dear all, From when it was founded in 2001, EWB-UK's success has been attributed to the enthusiastic and talented young volunteers who run it. All members of the National Executive and their respective teams are either students or young professionals who run our programmes (Placements, Training, etc.) and support functions (Fundraising, IT, etc.) in THEIR OWN TIME. Due to the nature of the organisation, most of the coordinating and team roles change hands each year, allowing younger members to take on new roles and more experienced members to take on more responsibility within the organisation. For all of those who want more involvement in EWB-UK please do not hesitate to apply, regardless of your past involvement. Each of the roles provide fantastic opportunities to learn the workings of a vibrant and growing UK based charity and many members of the Professional Network will be well placed to do great things with them. In the past year, with the help of support from DfID, RAEng and RedR, EWB-UK has been able to expand a number of its programmes and employ a small number of permanent staff. With these developments and the firm foundation that has been built up over the past 7 years, I really believe that Engineers Without Borders UK is an extremely valuable organisation to be a part of. Below are details of the Professional Network coordinator and team roles. Go to www.ewb-uk.org/get_involved/recruitment/2008 for info on the other roles. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding any of the roles.

EWB-UK Professional Network Coordinator I, and this year's PN team, have been building on the infrastructure of the Professional Network during 2007/8, working to develop the website, email bulletins, contacts database and regional PN communities. I won't be in the UK next year and so will need to hand over this role to someone who can keep the momentum going and move the PN to new places. This role has provided numerous opportunities to develop my coordination, team management, IT and general charity awareness skills. A huge amount of networking both within industry and the development / humanitarian sector has also allowed me to set the ground for a career in this sector. Although a previous involvement in EWB-UK will obviously help a great deal, even if you have little experience, please consider applying if you are enthusiastic about engaging young, enthusiastic professionals with a passion for alleviating poverty.

EWB-UK Professional Network Team he team as a whole is responsible for developing relationships within and between the PN membership, EWB-UK and the student societies (branches). Through this, opportunities will be provided for professionals to learn and develop their skills while also ensuring that EWB-UK makes the best use of the enthusiasm, knowledge and skills within the PN. The average time commitment is about 1-2 hours per week on average but may be more or less depending on level of activity and time of year
