SHELTER WEEKEND
Cambridge, Saturday 8th- Sunday 9th March

Interested in disaster relief and development? Want to spend a weekend learning about shelter from experts in the field? This course aims to provide an introduction to shelter, from international planning through to project implementation and the associated practical technical skills. With a mix of theory and hands-on workshops covering shelter in emergencies, the transition from relief to development, and reconstruction and mitigation, this course will educate and inspire. The course is open to students of all disciplines - you don't have to be an engineer!

FIELD COMMUNICATIONS
Cambridge, Saturday 8th March

Run by Aptivate, leaders in IT services for international development, Field Communications will take an in-depth look at communications methods suitable for remote locations with little infrastructure. Radio, GSM, satellite and power will be examined through a combination of theory and hands-on practical exercises. PSTN, PABX, VHF, VSAT, GPRS, EDGE, DVB, Morse code, encryption, roaming, Globalstar, Iriduim, solar power, and much, much more will be covered.

ADVANCED WIND WEEKEND

Join EWB-UK and V3 for an exciting and educational weekend of wind turbines. Learn about the theory of wind energy and its application in a development context, try your hand at constructing parts of a wind turbine and even have a go at putting it all together and installing it.

TRI-DISCIPLINARY COURSE

The Tri-Disciplinary Course will provide an introduction to elements of Water and Sanitation, Shelter and Infrastructure and Alternative Energy. This three day residential course will cover theory and practice in all three areas. A fantastic opportunity to meet some of the experts from the field and to learn about fuel efficient stoves, road infrastructure in rural Africa, solar water heaters and much more.

Want to expand your knowledge of the crucial issues that face those in the developing world..?

 Come join us, on Saturday 1st March 2008 for the International Development Course. Held from 9.30am-6pm, @ the Cardiff School of Engineering.

The course is a one day event hosted by Engineers without Borders, People and Planet; and Kenyan Orphan Project and is sponsored by from Wales for Africa Fund. Speakers include Registered Engineers for Disaster Relief, World Development Movement, Mothers for Africa, Ethiopian Link Charity to name a but few...and plan to cover a multitude of disciplines: social, health, economic, environmental and engineering. The day will end with a brief debate from a few key speakers in each field allowing an opportunity to ask questions from people with first hand experience in helping remedy these issues.
