Havana Water Project
In June and July 2006, four students from the University of Bristol - Robert Cottrell, Hugo Baker, Ian Baggs and Hayley Sharp - sucessfully travelled out to Havana to meet their counterparts in Havana to continue work on the ongoing project "Optimisation and Control of Havana Water Supplies".
The project is a follow-on from Bristol University’s 2005 Mondialogo Engineering Award winning project: “The Optimisation and Control of Cuban Urban Electric and Water Supplies”, which was carried out in conjunction with CUJAE, the Polytechnic University of Havana, Cuba (see below). A new team of Bristol University engineering students had been working with CUJAE since March 2005, with the final aim of setting up an optimisation and leak detecting system throughout the existing Havana water system (currently running with losses of up to 70%).
The trip was highly sucessful, with enough research and collaberation between the teams to give both groups a great deal to work towards over the next year.
We will be looking for new enthusiastic students to join the project over the next academic year. If this is something you could be interested in, please get in touch with the current EWB-Bristol committe.
