Hydro Competition: Change Lives with Your Ideas!
Calling engineers with bold ideas! Could you design a pico hydropower system to supply electricity to a newly built Nursery school in Dhawa village, rural Nepal? Take part in our competition and be in with a chance to win £5000 to implement your ideas.
EWB-UK and partner NGO Learning Planet have teamed up to launch the competition, which challenges engineers to provide the school with the electricity needed to power essential equipment. This will be the perfect chance make a 'Massive Small Change' to the lives of children in the village.
Two possible intake sites for pico hydropower systems have been identified by locals. Together, the sites have the potential to provide over 500W to the school. The challenge is to design a pico hydro system that can make best use of the power available at the two intake sites.
Open to university students and recent graduates in teams of up to 6, entries should consider the context and cost of the systems as well as the technical design. The winning team will be awarded £4000 to implement their design and a £1000 travel bursary to assist with travel to Nepal.
