Bursaries Team
- Market the scheme nationwide and encourage members to apply for the funding available for their own ideas for overseas volunteering or UK research projects.
- Assess, discuss and choose the best people and project ideas.
- Assess the feedback and plan how to develop the scheme in future to develop our members and the organisations they work with.
The team members are collectively responsible for the effective running of the bursaries scheme. Being a team member is an exciting role which provides valuable exposure to international development issues and a great learning opportunity for anyone interested in overseas work themselves in future. It is also hugely satisfying to see the volunteers and the Bursaries come together to benefit our partners in the UK and overseas.
Team members may undertake a variety of roles throughout the year, some examples of which are given below. The average time commitment is about 1-2 hours per week on average, with more time needed on certain occasions such as training weekends and interviews etc - but these are also times with lots of get-togethers and fun socials too! A significant amount of the training is shared with the Placements team which provides further opportunities for working with other parts of EWB-UK.
Examples of roles undertaken include:
- Creating an evaluation of past bursary awards and organising recipients to give presentations at events such as the EWB-UK National Training Conference - a great opportunity to see the effect of the previous Bursaries, meet the volunteers, and promote the scheme to everyone interested in EWB-UK around the country.
- Advertising the Bursaries scheme as widely and as effectively as possible - a great chance to learn about marketing and getting a message across!
- Ensuring all applicants to the Bursaries scheme are assessed fairly so we can choose the best people and project ideas - a great insight into development projects and very satisfying to see the applications turn into reality for the applicants.
- Thinking strategically about the ongoing development of the scheme - a great chance to influence the direction of one of EWB-UK’s more recent areas of activity.
