Outreach & Professionals

The EWB-UK Outreach programme provides the opportunity to inform and inspire the next generation of young engineers. Through hands-on workshops in schools and youth groups, EWB-UK aims to engage young people between the age of 12-16, stimulating knowledge and awareness of development issues, and of the role that engineers can play in reducing the impact of poverty around the world. Roles for Professional Network members

  • Participate in one of the outreach programmes, whether as a workshop facilitator, or in a support role
  • Assist and advise student groups with ongoing outreach programmes, or help them to develop links to other charities, institutions and schools.
  • Link with colleagues and/or fellow Professional Network members to start your own workshops in local schools or groups.
  • Work as part of the Outreach National Volunteers team to help develop the future strategy of Outreach to develop the future strategy, create new outreach programmes, or improve the current workshops.

  • Directly inspire and enthuse young people in development and engineering
  • Build your own knowledge of key development issues
  • Network within the development sector
  • Develop communication skills and gain experience and confidence in public speaking
  • Companies may participate as part of a CSR program, to work within the local community and for future recruitment

Examples of involvement  

EWB-UK & World Scout Jamboree

Two PN members from London ran a Water and Sanitation workshop in the 2007 World Scout Jamboree with some members of the EWB-Imperial College branch

 

 

 

EWB-UK Water for the World Links are being established between PN members from an engineering firm and the Water for the World scheme that was started by EWB-Oxford some years ago. Water's importance is highlighted along with its relevance to the Millennium Development goals and the role engineer's can play.
